We had a fulfilling weekend with friends, family, and fellow Gamecock fans, enjoying golf, BBQ, and whiskey. Highlights included fun competitions, great food, and memorable moments on the course. We finally ticked off a whiskey bucket list – selecting a private barrel at a historic distillery in Kentucky. The insightful and fun-filled trip involved exploring distilleries, engaging tastings, hearty laughs, and shared stories. This memorable experience was rounded off with the selection of tailored staves for the perfect bourbon blend and signing the chosen barrel together as a team.
The Gamecock Bourbon Society has shared updates on various current and upcoming activities. A busy football season has seen the Society growing in members and momentum. The Society is releasing its first-ever barrel pick from South Carolina, named “Garnet Dawn”, on November 24th with a special release at Bottle’s Beverage Superstore. Other notable highlights include tailgates and merchandise sales for football and basketball games, upcoming bourbon barrels from Maker’s Mark and Broad Branch, and a tribute gift to bourbon legend Julian Van Winkle.
Gamecock Bourbon has announced the arrival of their two new barrels at retail partners, ready for shipment across South Carolina. Bottles can be collected from Green’s on Assembly and Bottles Columbia. Inquiries are welcomed via email or Twitter DM. Special offers are available for members who have reserved bottles via the company’s website until November 24th. However, prices will increase after the cut-off date of November 25th. The initiative does not generate profits but aims to spread good bourbon in South Carolina.
An executive from Chicken Cock Whiskey partnered with the GBS for tastings and potential collaborations. After tasting several whiskeys, they selected an 8-year bourbon, naming it “The Roost”. They also had a special barrel tasting with Driftless Glen and picked a Rye for future release. A premium whiskey tasting event with Chicken Cock was organized at Prime Steakhouse, where “The Roost” was served to guests. The dinner event received positive feedback and similar events are planned for the future. “The Roost” will be made available to the public at Green’s on Assembly Street.
The founder of Gamecock Bourbon Society (GBS), G.C. Ramey, announces his departure from the club to pursue his passion in education, with a focus on bourbon history. Ramey initially established GBS with hopes of connecting with fellow Gamecock and bourbon enthusiasts. Former Director of Development, Paul Miles, will now assume ownership and operations of GBS, allowing Ramey to focus on his academic pursuits. Existing GBS operations and events are expected to continue.
The Gamecock Bourbon Society has had a busy year acquiring exclusive barrels for its members. Upcoming releases include the popular Blue Run “Black Magic” and Lone Elm Texas Wheat Whiskey, as well as 100% Jimmy Red Corn Bourbon from Charleston’s High Wire Distillery. Other selections, including Chicken Cock’s 7-year-old Single Barrel and Broad Branch’s Single Barrel, will be launched later this year. Future tastings are planned at Maker’s Mark and Jack Daniel’s, among others. The Society has received member interest in selecting, tasting, and naming barrels, and is working on solutions to facilitate such involvement.
