Our Ethos
The Gamecock Bourbon Society is a bourbon enthusiasts group based in Columbia, South Carolina. The group is focused on exploring and celebrating the rich history and culture of bourbon whiskey, as well as enjoying and sharing their favorite bourbons with like-minded individuals.
In addition to a love for bourbon, members of the group are dedicated fans the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, with many events involving various coaches, athletes, and sports figures.
Membership in the Gamecock Bourbon Society is open to anyone who has a passion for bourbon and wants to learn more about this iconic American spirit. Members of the society meet regularly to taste and discuss different bourbons, as well as attend special events and tastings hosted by local distilleries and bourbon experts.
The Gamecock Bourbon Society is also involved in charitable work, using their love of bourbon to support local causes and organizations in their community. Overall, the society offers a fun and engaging way for bourbon lovers to connect and deepen their appreciation of this beloved spirit.

What does GBS mean to you?
“GBS is so much more than a social media group. While it’s a common place to come to talk about Gamecocks and/or bourbon, it’s a movement that brings out the best in people. It’s a place where literally anybody can come in and feel welcome. Everyone in the group encourages others to chase their dreams (and which bourbon to enjoy while drawing up the blueprint!) GC, Garrett and their entire team promote positivity and joy while bringing the absolute heat on anything Gamecocks and bourbon. The best part about GBS, besides two things I love the most, is it brings forward what life should be about: making others feel loved, appreciated and encouraging us all to not only live each day like it’s our last, but to treat everyone like we want to be treated. I’ve personally made so many lifelong friends in the short time GBS has been around and I’m humbled to be part of something so much bigger than me.”
What does GBS mean to you?
“I just love this group and the endless positivity that is promoted. Social media can be such an endless cesspool of negativity, but GC and Garrett always stay above the fray by cultivating a sense of community founded in two things that evoke passion: bourbon and our beloved Gamecocks. Whether it be through formal events, tailgates, podcasts, or an impromptu meetup, they work hard to nurture relationships within this ever-growing family. As Buffalo Trace’s Freddie Johnson says: “There will always be old barrels and bottles of whiskey. But friends and family won’t always be around.” I just love this family, and hope to be able to share a pour with more of them!”
What does GBS mean to you?
“My daughter told me earlier in 2022 that I should check out this Twitter page called Gamecock Bourbon Society since i was really getting into bourbon at that time and she had just graduated from the University back in 2020. Of course, I immediately went to their page and saw that GC was trying to get his number of Twitter followers to 1801, a significant number in USC history. At that time, I think I was somewhere in the 1500’s in the number of followers. I could tell right away that this was going to be something very special to me and many others. I was so excited to be able to go up to Columbia for the Spring Game tailgate and get to meet many of the OG GBS members, including GC and Garrett. The experience that I had that day was more than I could’ve ever asked for. The kindness and camaraderie that was shown to me that day will never be forgotten. I have made MANY lifelong friends through GBS that ‘m so very thankful for. So many times, on social media the friends you make aren’t really “real life” types of friends, but with GBS I can honestly say that everyone I have interacted with and met in person have all been amazing people and are so easy and friendly to talk to. These will be lifelong friendships without a doubt.
GBS has done such a wonderful job in keeping members involved in the group through giveaways and events for members to get together that always have a huge turnout! GBS is constantly looking for new ways to grow the brand, including podcasts and a YouTube channel so that members can see behind the scenes of podcasts and vlogs that they have done.
I couldn’t be more proud to be a member of this amazing group. I so look forward to each and every interaction with everyone. I always feel like such a part of something really very special with every conversation I have and every time I get see some of the GBS members. Being a part of GBS has meant so much to me and I can hardly wait to see where we go from here!
